Ok, I am a follower and you are on my blog roll!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite grade would be 11th...I was President of my class that year.My 4th grade teacher was my fav she was kind and gentle. Favorite subject was History and it still is (although I taught literature).A funny story...the hem came out of my dress in 5th grade and she had me go to the restroom and hand her out my dress and she hemmed it while she read to the class! It is kinda funny now!
So that is about as good as it gets from me...I am pretty boring actually! Dianntha (i am crossing my fingers!)
Oh, yea! I love hearing these stories! (4 stars for you!) I have such a clear mental image of a teacher in a chair stitchin' and reading! I had a similar incident in 5th grade. Yeah, like 2 years ago!!! We had a downpour, and I had to take the kids to the other building. Well, my skirt got so waterlogged it was falling down. I sat in the principal's office in my slip while the administrative assistant took my skirt home and put it in the dryer... I love History too! Although, I am know at my school as the "Science Teacher". I teach all subjects, but I guess word gets around! Cool that you were president! I can sense that in your personality! You are soooooo far from boring! I so appreciate you taking the time to respond, Dianntha!
DeleteBlessings and hugs!
Heather
Congrats of 50 followers! I too am having a hard time getting adjusted to the new year and getting everything back to "normal."
ReplyDeleteI would love to be entered in your giveaway. I would have to say my favorite grade was Kindergarten. I was so ready to start school and loved it. I made so many new friends! I had an amazing teacher whom I loved dearly. She would have to be my favorite teacher. Her name was Ms. Cindy. She and I kept in touch all through school and she attended my bridal shower and spoke. We still talk and catch up when we run into each other in town. I guess my favorite subject would have to have been either math or science. I enjoyed figuring out things. Oh-and a funny school memory. There was a boy named Jason that sat next to me in 2nd grade. When we did art work, he always found the need to do his work standing which irritated me to death. LOL. Keep in mind, I was the child who was TERRIFIED to ever get in trouble. One day, I decided to be funny. He was doing art work (cutting) and I decided to ask him to sit down. As he sat down, I pulled the chair out from under him causing him to stick the scissors in his eye. Yikes! Luckily, he was okay and I convinced him not to tell on me! Ahhh...sneaky me! I felt bad afterward and was so thankful I didn't get into trouble. Hehe...Sure didn't try that again!
Yikes! I have lots of students who have to stand or sit funny to work. Since my desk is in the back of the room it is always funny to watch the contortions. I can imagine it could be annoying. I am loving these stories where teachers are still a part of your adult lives! That warms my heart!
DeleteI love science too! I somehow got the reputation as the "Science Queen" at school. I think it is a nice way to just call me a nerd... ;)
Thanks for participating!!!!!
Love, Heather
Hi Heather! Congrats on 50 followers although I am seeing it is currently at 53! Cute giveaway, I would love to be entered!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower:)
I think my favorite grade in school was 4th grade. I was very shy as a child and remember that was the year I came out of my shell. It was a great age, lots of friends, sleep overs, birthday party's and I was able to talk on the phone!
My favorite teacher was my 4th grade teacher as well. She was older and would get so frustrated with the kids that she would forget what she was doing - she would start to yell, stop herself, take a deep breath and say "oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles" and we would all go down to the gym and play dodgeball! She was really very sweet:)
My favorite subject was art when I was in high school. I was very inspired by my teacher and went on to study it in college in which I got my BFA degree:)
Thanks so much for the chance and a little walk down memory lane!
~Lori
I need to make that my new mantra "That's the way the cookie crumbles". Smart teacher to take class to blow off steam in the gym. I once had a class of all boys. We frequently stopped class so they could go out, run a lap, and come back in. They were such a fun, dear group of boys.
DeleteI love that your teacher inspired you! Thank you for sharing such positive and dear pictures from your childhood!
Love, Heather
Oh what a fun post Heather! But UGH! Your making me think about being back in school. That was soooo long ago, you know.I would love to be entered though, so here goes.
ReplyDeleteOne prominent memory for me is when I was in first grade and I was soooo shy(I know, you would never know now)that I wouldn't read aloud for reading groups. I knew how to read, I just didn't want to open my mouth and have the others make fun or whatever.
In Jr High and High School I loved art, surprise! I wanted to be a fashion designer or something like that. But back then I always got the vibes that that was frivolous and I should take business courses. So, I guess my business teacher was my favorite. She taught me to type well edit, which all comes in handy writing my blog.Well God has a plan even if we think other wise. I am happy and blessed to be doing what I am doing now.
I loved the verses at the end of your post.
Blessings for a wonderful new year~Sara
God is certainly in control! My desire after the astronaut thing was marine biologist. I really wanted to be in science. My guidance counselor kind of did the same thing as your school experience- Said there weren't many marine biologist jobs out there. What about teaching? Well, God continued to call me in that direction!
DeleteYou get to use your art skills and writing skills to bless others! And you do it so well! I am glad you are doing it too!!!!
Love,
Heather
Congrats! My favorite school subject was english.I loved writing short stories and always did well.I also liked history but mainly just when they talked about pioneer times and the civil war(go figure lol).My favorite teacher was Mrs Adams she took no prisoners if you were bad you got a solid whack on the hand with a ruler but she was fair and kind too.She lived down the road from us and would let us come and ride her horses and play with the farm animals.Warm Blessings!~Amy
ReplyDeleteHeeehee! The ruler whack thing... Did YOU ever get whacked? ;) Oh how much fun to play at your teacher's farm!
DeleteI love history too! I love those time periods!
Thank you for taking the time to share! No whacks here for you! Just gold stars!
Blessings right back!
Heather
Oh my gosh, love your pie pinkeep! 1.My favorite grade in school was probably 1st grade because I loved the teacher. 2. My 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Hilger, was so nice and I just loved her. I would play school at home and line up my dolls for the students and then of course I would be Mrs. Hilger! 3. I would have to say my favorite subject was Reading. 4. A funny memory I have is in one teacher's class when we would go on field trips we would all call our teacher "mom" cause we wanted everyone to think she had that many kids! lol
ReplyDeleteOh my! You guys were so silly! I bet that got quite the reaction! For being a teacher today, I never played school as a kid. It is funny when I let my students lead the class for devotions or something, I hear myself in their "style". Yikes!!!
DeleteBlessings to you and thank you sooo much for sharing!
Heather
i'm a follower. i really enjoyed elementary school K-5th grade. why - easy classes & moments. no real stress. fun times. hanging out with friends. nap time. seriously i enjoyed gym (is gym class a subject?) class in 5th grade. Mr. G, we called him. he would clean his ear out with his car key. i always wonder how he never hurt his ear??!! ha. ha!! think about him all the time & wondering if he still cleans his ears. ha. ha!! a story - for some reason i seem to remember the gross moments ... i'll keep it short - a guy i always thought was cute & still felt like a brother because we grew up in school together would always get sick after lunch in our class - come to find out he was allergic to milk. so when he figured it out he would only drink water. sure wish he would have figured it out sooner. i enjoy art class or being creative. current events was always cool & fun. gosh i hope i covered everything i really enjoyed school as a kid. guess it got more tough when i went to middle school & all that jazz. ha. ha!! got questions i would love to answer them. ha. ha!! have a great sunday. big big hugs. ( :
ReplyDeletehi Heather! i am a follower and will post a picture to your give away on my side bar.. lets see my favorite grade.. i think it was my earlier years. i loved kindergarden and still chat with my teacher from then and she doesnt look a day older than me. nice lady, 1 st grade teacher cranky but was raising her grandbabes and was probley tired of kids.. my 4th grade teacher or could be 5th was a tall bald man (still is) and i remember science/reproduction and his head would always turn red. those were fun years of recess and dodge ball! care free. one funny story. i was doing summersalts in the music practice room and got my braces caught in the carpet..
ReplyDeletenot so funny but embarrasing at the time.. classmates still remember. i think my favorite class was science. i am friends with my teacher from then. we share the love of gardening and he brings a small class by for soap class! he was and still is my favorite teacher! enjoy your day Heather. and i want to put it on my blog!! more the merrier!!
Okay, I want to say, ladies, that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE reading your stories! I really appreciate you all taking the time to share! And, I love hearing that many of you still keep in contact with your teachers. As a teacher, I will tell you, that means so much to us. I miss my students when they leave my class. I feel like my children are "leaving the nest" every year... I cherish each one, and it blesses my heart greatly when they desire to return to the nest for a visit...
ReplyDeleteGold stars and teacher hugs to you all!!!!!
Mrs. Wise
Okay, I so want you all to read the stories others have taken the time to write. So I am going to pepper these comments with stories of my own- as a teacher and as a student.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few...
I was EXTREMELY shy through out school. My favorite teacher, Mr. Murphy, would always say, "Heather, PROJECT your voice!" If only he could see me on the playground now...
Embarrassing story... I went to 4 different schools through out K-12. My favorite time was spent at a smallish Christian school. This is the same school with Mr. Murphy. Well, one day, my friend Karis, leans over to me and says, "Heather, your epidermis is showing." Now, there was a dress code at this school. Girls had to wear skirts to the knee. So, I am thinking, 'Oh no! Something is showing, and the boys will see it!' So, off I rush to the bathroom to check. One of my other classmates was in there so I asked her, "Is my epidermis showing????" "Yup," was her answer, and she left. I sat in the stall, practically in tears. My friend, who felt remorse and was worried that I was in the bathroom for a bit, came and told me what it was, and boy did I feel stupid!
So, for an extra gold star to the person who answers this first (make sure you reply to THIS specific comment)- What was showing? (Oh, and this is a really fun trick to play on people... Heee heee!)
The Marm
hhhhmmmmm. My children attended Christian School for quite a while and through the 4 children and the years the dress code changed. Dresses for the girls at first and then by the end they could wear Khakis. I used to make sure they were always wearing tights when it was cold as to make sure they stayed warm and to be sure their little "SKIN" was covered. Blessings for a wonderful Sunday! ~Sara
ReplyDeleteYes, Sara, you have the correct answer! Gold Star Point! Since my face and arms were exposed (and part of my legs), my epidermis was indeed showing! Perfectly normal. A panic moment for a girl who had a crush on a boy...
DeleteBlessings, Sara! You have a wonderful Sunday as well!
Morning Friend
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite teacher was Mrs. Kupski..No Mrs. Santos.
Second grade she played the piano and was in charge of plays.
I have always loved to sing.(Only the chicken loves my voice and granny's)
Well I had long hair and I wanted to be Cinderella. Sadly I was a stepsister :(
But I did sing very loudly.
My fav subjects were art and music. :) LUNCH was good too.
Thank you for the fun ..Gold star for the stepsister please.
Woolie Hugs
Trace
Yippie Heather! Congrats on 50 followers! I'd love to join your fun giveaway.
ReplyDelete1. I'm a follower;
2. My favorite grade in school was 5th..we had a great teacher and he made learning fun!
3. My favorite teacher was Mr. Webster in high school accounting. He was more like one of the crowd, and we could really relate to him, but still respected him as our elder and teacher...and he drove a yellow Corvette, which was the ultimate in 'coolness' back in the late 70s.
4. I think my favorite subject was accounting. It challenged me yet I enjoyed it so much.
5. One of my best memories from school was being part of the foreign exchange program...I never got to go abroad, but I did help on many projects and met some awesome teens from other countries.
Thanks for the fun! Have a great week.
Morning, Congrats... oh what a sweet prim pinkeep, I am a new follower though I have seen your comments on many of the other gals blogs..........Please sign me up for your wonderful giveaway........Favorite subject, English, writing stories ......favorire Grade was 4......Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteWell Heather, since it has been 39 years since I graduated high school, I had to really think about this one. But first congrats. on your followers list just growing and growing. Okay, I guess my favorite grade was 10th. I started at the city high school and was going to be going to the same school as my boyfriend.{now my husband of 39 yrs}. I graduated in June and we married in July of the same year.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite teacher,,,, always seemed to be the one I had that year. Would have been easier to have told you the only one all thru school I didn't like. But the one that had the greatest impact on me ,,,, my second grade teacher Mrs. Kidd. She must have been 70 years old when she taught me. I loved her devotions each morning. I can still see her in her little wood straight chair, and it leaned back against the chalkboard reading us a Bible story. Then we would pray and sing. Can you see that happening in our public schools today???
My favorite subject in grammer school reading. I wanted to learn to read so badly. High school was shorthand. Yep, you can tell how long it's been since I went to school, huh?
A funny memory.. Well it's funny now, but not so much when it happened. I was in first grade. My mother worked so she was not one to frequent the class room and participate in parites and such. She had a day off
and came to hear me read in the reading group. I cried and wanted to go home with her. She wouldn't let me so when she left I pooped in my panites thinking I would get to go home. Bad idea. Mrs. Katherine , my teacher kept extra clothing in the closet. So I went the rest of the day in a dress too long and too big and looked like an orphan. So there you have it. Have enjoyed reading all the other comments also. Good luck to us all.
Angela
I was actually your 50th follower to join. I saw your awesome Christmas pictures and knew yours was a blog I would love to read.
ReplyDeleteI am in Canada, so not sure I can join in the giveaway, but if I can here are my answers:
-I loved grade 8. I was an army brat and it was the last year with all my army brat friends because my dad retired. There is a kinship that none of my non army brat friends could ever understand. I will be 38 soon and I still miss those days.
-My favourite teacher was my grade 10 french teacher Madame Graham. She was the epitome of patience and kindness. 10 years after graduation I ran into her at the mall. She still seemed genuinely happy to see me.
-My favourite subject has always been history. I still love it and spend countless hours on wikipedia reading about historic events.
-Lastly, once in highschool the vice principal came on the announcements. He was clearly irritated over the state of the school cafeteria. Sarcastically he said that they (principal and him) were thinking of getting rid of the tables and installing troughs! LOL it was hilarious. Fortunately the cafeteria was kept clean from there on out. :)
Oh, my! I can't tell you how much I am enjoying these! And, just to let you know- it is open to anyone, even outside of the US! It is funny to read these as a teacher to see how things really don't change that much!!! Thank you, thank you for taking the time to support my blog and take time out of your busy lives to share! These should be a book!
ReplyDeleteOkay, bonus gold star question. Same rules as before- first person to reply correctly to this comment gets an additional entry on top of the ones for your original post!
So, hearing about poor behavior reminds me of my senior year. No, I was not a part of it, but almost half of the little over 100 students in my class were. Here's the story. Every senior class did a end-of-the-year prank. One year, it was sheep in the halls. Really. Well, MY class decided they needed to go over the top. We came to school one day, and here is the litany of what was done...
Books pulled off of shelves in library
Phones in office glued down
Speed bumps all squished flat.
Um, gross moment, someone peed on the principals chair.
Papers and trash everywhere.
Well, a week before graduation, the loud speaker crackled with many, MANY people being called to the office. The consequence? The students who participated were not allowed to walk in the graduation ceremony. Yup. Awkward. I was there on the stage- no worries.
So, here is the question... One final part of the prank was a doozy. I live in Lancaster County, PA. What iconic "item" of Lancaster County was put on the roof?
Who has the answer...
Way to go Annwithan'e'! I have loved reading these stories. Please include me as long as you don't mind international postage costs!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved school though I attended a very small rural school with only two teachers and I didn't really dislike them though they weren't exactly warm and caring.
Anyhow, one of the main things that I remember was the jump rope contest. I had practised for weeks before it and intended to win - only it ended up being the most embarrassing point of my schooling. My knicker elastic was worn out with all that skipping! and as they slipped down below my hemline I had to shuffle away to the toilets amid the roars of laughter of my classmates and the headmaster!
I'm still blushing now!!!
As to your question - when I think of Lancaster County I think Amish, but it couldn't have been an Amish buggy, could it????
Thanks for the fun!
God bless
Christine
Christine,
DeleteYou get an extra gold star- you are correct. An Amish buggy was put on the roof of the school...
Yikes...
Okay, bonus question for today... I want you to read ALL of these stories, so you never know when I might sneak one of these in...
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in 6th Grade, Christa Mcauliffe was going to be the first teacher in space. All of my life until then, I dreamed of being an astronaut. My favorite space shuttle was the Challenger. On January 28th, 1986, I was roaming the halls in the school (which I should not have been doing, but that is another story...) when an open office door revealed a tv and pictures of the tragedy of the Challenger exploding as it made its way through the atmosphere. We didn't watch it in the classroom because we could not get tv reception. I was horrified as they played the disaster over and over on the news.
I rethought my dream of becoming an astronaut. Being claustrophobic, afraid of heights, and prone to motion sickness as I got older did not help either. But, God works in mysterious ways. He shows such grace through His dewdrops of mercy. I became a teacher, not an astronaut. And, 7 years ago, I had the privilege to work with a grant partnership between our IU and NASA. I got to meet scientists and every year go to Goddard Spaceflight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. I got to be a NASA nerd for 5 years. I kept all of my temporary badges. (See. Nerd.) I am still in awe that God answered my dream but in His way (which was MUCH better than mine!)
Anyhoo, in college, way back in the day, I got to meet a famous astronaut from the Apollo 13 mission. I listened to him tell his account of the mission. I teared up when a child asked him if he would want to go to the moon again. He told the child that it was the child's job to do now. I shook his hand and got him to autograph my copy of his autobiography. Then, I didn't wash my hand for a few weeks. (Again. Nerd.)
So the gold star question is, who was this commander of the Apollo 13 mission whom I met? AND what actor played him in the movie, Apollo 13? Remember- first to reply to this comment gets the gold star...
It was tom hanks...james lovell was commander.
DeleteI am going to give you a gold star too! Get ready for the next gold star question... :)
DeleteHi Heather, Was it James A. Lovell? And Tom Hanks was the actor in the movie? I have so enjoyed checking back and reading everyones comments. What a fun giveaway. You are a wise lady, Mrs. Wise. Your class has to love you.
ReplyDeleteAngela
You got it, My Dear!!!!! Jim Lovell is correct! Gold star! Wooohoooo!
DeleteYou are too sweet! I don't know if they love me, but I love them... :)
Congrats on 50 Heather...soon it will be 100! Thank is what I am hoping for! Love reading the stories!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite year was second grade...I got to learn to write and got to make my first communion. My favorite teacher was Mr. Meisch, he was so much more than a teacher and I learned so much more than "book" stuff from him. My favorite subject was English especially writing. and as for a funny story...well when I was in high school my dad was also a History teacher. We had a new school that didn't have rooms but rather had partitions and whenever my dad would raise his voice (which he did a lot) everyone in the whole area of the school would hear and if I was in that area in a different class everyone would always look at me, so embarrassing!
Be blessed,
Cindi
Oh, that story about your dad! LOL! We were talking about purchasing this building for our school since we were running out of room, and they talked about doing that with the walls. I was so afraid they would do that. I could not bear to teach in that! My coworker and dear friend can be pretty loud next door (he teaches fourth)- you never know what sounds or impressions might come from that room. AND WE HAVE REAL WALLS! Ugh. ;)
DeleteThank you for sharing, dear!
Heather
hello dear what a sweet giveaway..please count me in..
ReplyDeletei am your follower.
1..my fav grade was grade 9..it was alot of fun..in grade 9 i took cooking so lots of fun and mishaps in the school kitchen.
2...my fav teacher was mrs.naheed..and i was her fav student too...i love her because she smiles all the time.
3...my fav subject was biology.
4...hmmnn i still remember i was playing with the glue and standing next to my teacher chair..and glue burst open and fell on my teacher chair..well i was thinking what to do..and in the meantime my teacher came and before i say something she sat on the chair..i still cant forget her expression and my face..
thank you dear x
Cucki,
DeleteI can just picture the look on your face with that glue! When younger kids do things like that, they just go blank as to what they should do. I don't know if you have the expression in Africa, "Deer in the headlights" look. They just get big eyes and freeze. Heee hee! I bet you were the favorite student of many teachers! Except maybe the one still glued to her chair! ;)
Kids and cooking- yikes! I remember my food class too... I am surprised that no one got food poisoning!
Thank you for taking time to share, dear Cucki! Hugs right back!
I would love to be included in your giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am a follower...
It is hard to choose my favorite grade, because my elementary years were my favorite. I will say fifth grade, because I seem to remember more of what we did that year. We did all kinds of fun reading projects and crafts...
My fifth grade teacher was my favorite. She was very kind. She was also Jewish, and taught us a Jewish song and dance, which was very fun. We also did all kinds of fun crafts in her class...
My favorite subjects were American history (in Elementary) and English...
Thanks so much, Heather. I hope you have a wonderful day! The world should have more teachers like you!
You are too kind! God has put this ministry on my heart and given me the wisdom on how to use it... It is all God!
DeleteI love American History too! I think it is funny, so many of us country blogging gals like history and English... Hmmm. Guess we used it after all!
Hugs to you!
Heather
Oh, and I wanted to include my answer for your fourth question...I can't remember too many funny things happening in school -- but one year when I was in high school I had a teacher named Mrs. Funkhouser. She was our Office Technology teacher. Occasionally when the rest of us were working on our assignments, she would sit at her typewriter, just typing away...well, one day, a very silly friend of mine said, "Look, Karen...Mrs. Funkhouser looks like a chipmunk when she types." Well, the way she would hold her lips when she typed...it was true...she DID look like chipmuck (in a very nice way!) and we just laughed and laughed...this became a private joke between us that we giggled over for the longest time! It wasn't meant as anything mean, of course! Mrs. Funkhouser was a VERY sweet teacher--and one of my favorites! I still think of that from time to time--lol :) Silly girls...
ReplyDeleteHeeeheee! I have such images of a chipmunk! Hee hee! Oh, no! I wonder if my students think I remind them of a chipmunk! Or something less cute! Hee hee! You two silly girls!
DeleteThank you for sharing your story!!!!!
Love and hugs!
Heather
Gold Star Question for today...
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of NASA... NASA prides itself on safety, since the beginnings of its manned space program. They have used a certain cartoon character as its mascot in this area. They also give a special award featuring this character as a reward for showing safety in the workplace. Who is the character and what is the name of the award.
And go... First person to reply...
Hey, Heather ~ is NASA's mascot "Snoopy?"
ReplyDeleteThe award is called the "Super Snoopy Award."
DeleteHmmmm....I thought it was the Silver Snoopy Award....
DeleteIt was, she corrected herself by email... I forget that my replies don't post... You smart cookie- did you just up and know that? ;)
DeleteUmmm...actually, yeah. Like I said, I'm the original "nerd" and purveyor of totally useless information. Watching the Packers in the playoffs tonight...I might not be able to tell you what half the game is about, but when they said that Jim Harbaugh was the coach, I remembered, for some odd reason, that he used to play for the Chicago Bears. My husband just looked at me like I had landed from another planet.... Now, about the things I "should" know, that's a whole 'nother story!! ;o) Robin
DeleteHi! My name is Judy and I'm a new follower of your blog and I would love to be a winner of your pie pinkeep. Your questions got me thinking about those wonderful carefree days of my life. My favorite teacher would have to Mr. Brown who taught 8th grade biology. I hated biology but Mr.Brown's personality made it tolerable. My favorite grade was 12th grade. Your beyond the dramatics of the earlier school years and looking forward to a new future. My favorite class was most definately sewing. I loved sewing since I was in grade school sewing my barbie clothes by hand and watching my grandmother wip up clothes on her treadle sewing machine. She was my inspiration and I loved her dearly. Lastly, my funniest school memory would have to be the lunchroom food fight my last year of highschool. It was wild! I remember some of the teachers enjoying watching things getting tossed around for awhile before putting the brakes on. Thanks for letting me relive some wonderful memories. Blessings, Judy C. (jcarman2011@comcast.net )
ReplyDeleteFood fight! :) I think that is a great teaching strategy. You got to let kids be kids. In the scheme of things, they were just being silly. But, I like how the teachers did then take control. Grace needs to be a part of discipline sometimes. There are certain things you, of course, can have no tolerance for... Everyone loves a good food fight. Unless spaghetti is being served. Ew.
DeleteThanks for being a new follower!!! I great appreciate it!
Blessings, Heather
Gold Star Question for Today! (Remember, reply to this comment. First one wins the gold star!)
ReplyDeleteThis question has two parts...
Yesterday, I went to the Pennsylvania Farm Show. In what year did it start, and what record does it have that distinguishes it from all other farm shows?
And.... Go!
This was the 97th year, so it started in 1916. It is the largest indoor agricultural exposition in the country. Sounds like fun!
ReplyDeleteCorrect! Gold star, Holly! When you come to Pa, you let me know!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! I sure will! I hope to get there some day!
DeleteHi Heather, I hope I am not to late to enter into your giveaway. I loved all of the stories I read through just now and your replies. I loved your question about Apollo 13. I remember watching that happen on T.V. One thing I know it isn't a question but I thought I would share it. My parents lived in Oklahoma. My Dad was sick in the hospital and my sister and I flew back there in January. On a crisp blue morning, I was looking up into the sky and I saw this flash. I didn't know what it was but later I learned it was the space shuttle exploding on entry. The next day we had to drive back to Dallas to catch a flight back home and all along the way was troopers standing in fields by pieces of the shuttle. It will always be with me.
ReplyDeleteOkay on to your questions:
1.I am a follower of your blog.
2.My favorite grade in school was third.
3.My favorite teacher in school was Miss Wagner. She was considered " mean" but other students but I loved her. She taught us to do embroidery on burlap. I also learned to knit that year and all of the girls I was friends with would sit on the play ground at lunch knitting scarfs. Simpler time wasn't it.
4. My favorite class in school was Reading class and when I got older it was English.
5. A funny school Memory? I still to this day do not know how this happened. I had a terrible headache while I had been at school. I just wanted to go home. I got on the school bus and I had to walk to the back as all of the seats were full. I was shy and quiet. I also was the girl that lived out in the country so I was pretty good friends with the bus drivers. This bus driver was named Norman and was always a easy going kind of guy. That day though, he was upset with something that had been done earlier in the day on his bus. I had my head leaning up against the window because it hurt so bad just listening. All of a sudden the bus because completely quiet. I looked up and the bus driver was staring at me, all of the kids on the bus were staring open mouthed and I said, "What??" Then the kids starting saying " way to go and patting me on the back." I finally got someone to tell me what happened and I had said, " Oh will you just shut up."
I had to ride home alone with the bus driver. So after everyone got off the bus, he waited for me to walk up to the front seat behind his seat and I apologized over and over. " He said something like, Kim out of everyone on this bus you are the last person I ever expected any thing like that." " I said I didn't know how it had happened, I was just thinking about it and my head hurt so bad I just wanted to go home."
To this day, I still don't know how it happened. I don't know if it is funny to you but if you knew me, I would never in a million years speak out like that.
Sorry this is so long.
Thanks for entering me in your give a way Heather.
Kim
My Field of Dreams
Oh you dear girl! Such memories. Such a sad memory of that space shuttle. I don't think it is a memory you can easily forget. :(
DeleteI don't think crocheting at recess has gone too far out of style. We still have girls that do. Especially that crocheting you do on your hand. I love it!
As far as the headache thing, I can so picture how that can happen. I had the worst headache ever in a long time. I was in a trance I was in so much pain. I started crying and my poor students came and patted my head, gave me water, and prayed with me (so dear!) I felt like the child in that situation! I hope you haven't had headaches like that much!
I am happy to enter you in my giveaway! If you think of some more stories, then share some more!!! :)
Love,
Heather
Congratulations on 50+ followers Heather!!! And, ok....this is too much fun NOT to join in!! I have so enjoyed reading all the comments - especially the "memories" ones. But what should be an easy task if, for me, very, very, difficult. Picking a favorite grade, teacher, or subject? Almost impossible...I truly LOVED school. I LIVED for school....(I was probably the only child who did not wait for summer vacation....) (Yeah, and you think YOU'RE a nerd??!) Also making this difficult is the fact that I've spent so LONG in school...but I'll confine my comments to elementary/high school (because, trust me, you wouldn't want any "funny memories" from college or law school...) ;o) My favorite grade? All except 4th? Grades 1-3 had been spent in a 2-room parochial school with grades of 1-8. There were only two other children in my classes those 3 years. For grade 4, my parents transferred us to public school...and for this little farm girl it was a HUGE transition. I eventually acclimated, but that first year there was rough...not subject/teacher/learning-wise, but classmates/expectations/fitting-in-wise. Favorite subject? History, science, languages, math, home ec. Just can't pick a favorite there either. Favorite teacher? Ahhh....so many and for so many varied reasons. I'd have to say, though, the one that stands out is Mr. Schumacher. He was my Critical and Analytical Writing teacher as a freshman in high school. He was strict, but oh so good at what he did, and he made a connection in me that served me better than any other throughout my remaining "school days."
ReplyDeleteOk....for the "funny memory"....Let's see....many to choose from - but, I'll go with the one that made a full half page spread in our yearbook: In my senior year of high school, my friend and I had Advanced Geometry 1st period. It was a little "less-than-challenging" class if you know what I mean, and the kind-hearted teacher (who we loved to pieces), Mr. Duxbury, had a habit of lecturing for a bit, then leaving the classroom while we worked on our assignments. Well, my friend and I would finish quickly (like I said, not the most challenging class) and we would sneak out the window (the classroom was on the first floor) and go to the cafeteria for a bagel. One day, as we were sauntering back, we heard Mr. Duxbury coming down the hall behind us, so, my friend and I climbed into a glass display case that was in the process of being changed and was slightly opened. In the process, the case closed on us....we were stuck there for 2 periods before someone got the key and let us out. Oiy. Some lessons are harder to learn than others!! ;o)
Thanks for hostessing such a fun giveaway Teacher Wise....! I love it!! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
Baahhaaa! I love it! Oh, my! Did you guys stay still so you wouldn't get caught? I would have done different poses as people went by. Guess you and I would have been in the principal's office.
DeleteAlthough, I would not been done quickly in Geometry to sneak out of the window. I really struggled with it when I was younger! I have sneaked out of windows and gotten locked in things in school. When I was younger... When I was younger... ;) So we would have been good there.
I can really relate to moving from a small school to a larger one. I changed in the middle of 10th grade... That really stunk...
Heeheee! You are still making me giggle!!!!
Blessings and hugs to you, Robin!
Heather
Hello dear..
ReplyDeleteThe question I will answer is which was my favorite grade.. It was grade 11..
Why... Because that is the year that I met Terry (hubby) and we became high school sweethearts and still are now 43 years later.. smile.. xo
Awww! That is the sweetest answer! Praise God for 11th grade!!!!
DeleteThank you for sharing!!!!!
Love,
Heather
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely say my 10th grade year was my favorite. I had the best World History teacher who opened my eyes to History from that moment on I was hooked. I also had a new friend who kept me in "trouble" all the time from lighting a fire cracker in the library, to hanging some not so clean undies on the flag pole. She still swears up and down she didn't do it, but she did. She also had ways of getting us out of English class at least once a week. It's a wonder I even passed that class. :)
My favorite teacher would have been my eighth grade Science teacher. He was wonderful! He was also the football coach and knew all he had to do was threaten the wild boys with running laps when they got out of hand. It took the girls one day of running laps that he meant business. He knew I was scared half to death getting up and giving a scientific current event reports. Because of it, I always had to sit and sweat bullets waiting to go last.
Gold Star Question for today:
ReplyDeleteSo here is a teacher story... I had a meteorologist from a local station (WGAL) visit my classroom years ago. The poor man got lost, finally found our school, came into the classroom, saw me, and the first thing he asked was, "Where is your bathroom?" I had to shamefully send him down the hall. At that time, my classroom was with the kindergarten rooms, so needless to say the toilet was really, really tiny. He came back then. We couldn't get the VCR player to work. We brought in another one, but that didn't work either. I also had high ceilings, so we had our life-sized shark models hanging from the ceiling. Well, let's just say they were high enough for us... not him. The poor man spend his time tripping over TV carts, dodging and hitting a whale shark hanging from the ceiling, and probably recovering from the scariness that is the boys' bathroom. I love teaching weather, but I was happy to be done that unit that year! (And we were supposed to be on tv, but their satellite connection was down- praise the Lord!)
So, we have had some damp and cold weather around the country. What meteorological instrument is used to measure humidity, or the amount of water vapor in the air?
First person to respond to this COMMENT gets a big old gold star on your forehead!
Have a wonderful evening!
Love,
Heather
I think there are several, aren't there? A hygrometer, a hygristor or a hygrograph are what I'd say.... :o) Robin
ReplyDeleteGold Star! I am so sorry! I responded to this the day you posted but I must not have hit "publish". I was reading back through and checking emails, and I found that I didn't "gold star" you!
DeleteThe differences between the 3 are slight, but all have a part in determining water vapor in the atmosphere. (I know, Dear Robin, you know this, but a teacher has to have her teachable moment. I just can't help myself...)
A hygrograph is an automatic hygrometer. A hygristor is a resistor that actually does the detecting of the water vapor in a hygrograph. A hygrograph, I believe gives a read-out constantly over time, where a hygrometer alone would give an instantaneous readout. Hygrometers can be found in reptile tanks and other such places when you need to keep tabs on the humidity level!
Well done, Robin! I feel like we are the dueling Nerds. I hear banjos playing...
Hi Heather. What a fun giveaway. Please enter me for this one. My favorite grade was the 5th. The teacher was Mrs. Dingus. She was soft-spoken and kind. Favorite subject was, of course, Art. Funny memory? Well, one time the school couldn't find my twin sister, who was in another class from me. (Back then, they wouldn't allow twins in the same class). She was easily found, in my class sitting beside me! Perhaps funny only to twins(?) :)
ReplyDeleteHi Heather, just found your blog and I am a new follower. My favorite grade was probably second as I was the teacher's helper that year.My favorite teacher was Miss Hughes, she was such a sweetheart and so kind to all.My favorite subject was science. Hope that you have a lovely weekend.Hugs,Jen
ReplyDeleteHi, Jen!
DeleteWelcome! Thank you for sharing your school stories. I love science too! I have been dubbed (I did not ask for it) the "Science Queen" at the school I teach at. For some reason, if some science problem arises, everyone comes to me. I am not a walking dictionary! Or people leave spiders in a jar in my school mailbox because they think I will like it because I like science- I HATE SPIDERS!
I hope you weekend is a good one as well! I look forward to getting to know you better!
Hugs back!
Heather
Gold Star Question...
ReplyDeleteAchooo! Praise God for modern medicine! Who is CREDITED with first discovering penicillin as a antibiotic? But, I am going to make you work for it. Here is the rest of the Gold Star Question...
Where was this person from and what major honor did he hold?
You must answer all 3 parts for the Gold Star. You need to respond to this comment... And..............GO!
Alexander Fleming discovered it.
DeleteThe development of penicillin for use as a medicine is attributed to the Australian Nobel laureate Howard Walter Florey.
He was from Australia.
He was appointed a Knight Bachelor in 1944.
He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1945
Gold Star! There were so many people who had a part in this important medicine! Whew! Did you read about how Flemming discovered it in an old moldy petrie dish, and then all sorts of people tried it on different things. I think one I read was beard stubble infections or something like that. Flemming was also a Nobel Laureate and was from Scotland. One found it, and one figured out how to use it. It is also amazing how much time elapsed from seeing it to realizing its potential, to actually using it. Good job, Holly!!!!
DeleteHa....this one made me giggle out loud. Last term I taught "Legal Issues for Health Care Administrators" and as an intro to the subject, we did a little historical study of medicine and some of the "highlights" in its development. Mr. Flemming was actually on the final exam! :o)
ReplyDeleteAlrighty, here it is... Gold Star Question...
ReplyDeleteIn 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue and... thought that he'd landed in India. Well, they didn't name America after him, even though he is one of the contenders for it first being discovered (Get in line, Chris.). It's discovery is credited to this man, because he realized something that Columbus had not... this was a new world! So, we are HIS namesake. Who is this explorer? Go!
Reserved for Danice.... See discussion below. :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful giveaway! I just joined as a follower. I am ashamed to say I did not like school, but I would think 1st grade would be my favorite because I got to color a lot!! I still love to color, heehee. My favorite teacher was in the 9th grade her name was Ms. Richardson, and she made English so much fun. My favorite subject History, because I did love learning about things past. Maybe that's why I love country and prims now, who knows. This was fun thinking back, Hugs, Lynn
ReplyDeleteLynn,
DeleteWelcome, welcome!!!
It is funny that we prim and country decor lovers have a lot of school things in common- history, art, English... I think this is all fascinating and fun! Don't be ashamed to say you don't like school- there are other like you out there! I did not love school. I loved subjects and aspects and certain teachers. It is because of those things that I was "inspired" do things differently or similarly as a teacher. I want students, above all, to love God and learning. God's leading is foremost, because through Him, I learned that some of the things I thought were important, when it boils down to it, just aren't. As my all old principal used to say, "Not everything has to be Disney World!"
Wow, 9th Grade English fun! She must be an awesome teacher! It is interesting to hear people say different unusual subjects as being their favorite- specific grade, specific subject. I would like to see these teachers, and learn from them how they drew their students into the subject. It is amazing that one year the very same subject can be boring and the next fun- depending on the teacher!
Thank you so much for taking the time to add your story to the collection! So fun!!!
Hugs and love,
Heather
Hi Heather. Was the discoverer of the New World the Vikings, specifically Leif Ericson?
ReplyDeleteAlrighty, Danice, since you are almost there, I am reserving this question for you.
DeleteLeif Erikkson or Ericson and his fellow Vikings were kind of recently thought to have explored the east cost of North America around 1000 AD. This is based on archaeological digs. Another Chinese explorer by the name of Zheng He was also thought to have made a visit to North America as well. None of these gentlemen influenced our name in anyway.
It's discovery was credited to this man (at first, since revised, as you said, to others), because he realized something that Columbus had not... this was a new world! So, we are HIS namesake. Our name, America, comes from this man's name. Now, he explored after Columbus, but because of his realization, a German mapmaker gave him the credit. So Danice, this question is yours again... Who was this man?
This question is reserved for Danice... Danice, just reply to this question for your gold star! You are doing great!!!! :)
Hugs for participating!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heather
Hi again heather. OK, thank you so much. Was that explorer Amerigo Vespucci?
DeleteGold Star Question...
ReplyDeleteReply to this comment to get credit for answering this question...
What three main parts of speech does an adverb modify?
Ready? Go!!!!
Hello Heather! I am so glad to have found your blog through another blog I follow and I will be your most recent follower as soon as I finish answering these questions!
ReplyDelete1. My favorite grade in school: First grade, because I really liked my teacher.
2. My favorite teacher: Mrs. Patterson, because she had the patience to listen to me when I was a little chatterbox and she was so proud of me when I learned how to read.
3. My favorite subject: High school choir. Yes, it was a graded class and I didn't always get an A!
4. Funny school memory: The funniest memories come from those high school musicals, when things didn't always go as rehearsed and the star of the show made up all the words to one of his songs because he forgot them! It turned out to be really good....they all rhymed!
Thank you for this chance in your giveaway. What fun!!
Oh....for your bonus question: An adverb modifies verbs, adjectives and other adverbs...I think. :o)
Peggy Lee,
DeleteGold star to you and welcome!!!
Thank you for taking the time to share! Wow! Making up words on the spot. How did the rest of you keep a straight face? That's hilarious!!!
Blessings! I look forward to chatting with you more!

Gold Star Question for Today! (Remember, reply to this comment. First one wins the gold star!)
ReplyDeleteThis question has two parts and is worth 2 GOLD STARS!!!
1. What two bodies in our solar system contain most of the mass of the entire solar system?
2. Our Sun, a fairly average star, generates its energy in its core by changing which element into which other element?
Ready, set, go!!!
Oh I don't know these answeres, and I won't cheet by going and looking it up. Sorry, no answer today.
ReplyDeleteWelp, Miss Schoolmarm, I STILL don't know. #1 answer--Maybe the Sun and Earth?? I got lost trying to figure it out. #2 answer---Hydrogen and helium??
ReplyDeleteI hope someone else will answer. Even cheating I think I failed. Oh well, I need Mrs. Knowles here to whack my desk with her meter stick so I can remember (after 40 years) what she taught us.
Ok, Not earth but Jupiter,Jupiter being 1000 times bigger than earth and the sun is 1000 times bigger than Jupiter. Right?
ReplyDeleteAll right, Patty! You got them both! The Sun and Jupiter make up most of the mass of the solar system, and the Sun converts hydrogen into helium! 2 GOLD STARS!!!! No whacks here, but a big hugs for a job well done! Woohooo!
DeleteLove,
Heather
